The first chapters have come out in section ‘Language’ of textbook
The idea that the interface is subject to the syntax of the language was brought up by Artem Gorbunov in 2007. As native Russian speakers, we initially started by researching the relations between the Russian language’s syntax and user interface elements. In this book, I give examples using the English language syntax. But the idea proved to work regardless of the language.
A familiar icon can help you quickly find the right command. But when it comes to abstract concepts like databases, network folders, or hyperlinks, it’s difficult to depict the object itself, so any attempts to represent them with an icon are bound to fail. It’s important to design icons so that they are recognizable and easy to tell apart when placed next to each other.
